Namadgi Sports Flyers Club Inc

Namadgi Sports Flyers Club Inc. is the southern most club in the ACT. We are situated on the Naas Road at the village of Tharwa. See [Map]. Our specialities are an informal and relaxed approach to the hobby, and basic flight training.

Our membership at the 1st of June 1998 was 50, comprised predominantly of sports flyers with a significant percentage of beginners and intermediates.

Our field, though picturesque, is a fairly tight one at 75 metres. See [Picture]. In the obstacles department we boast a large hill, a dam, a creek and several trees scattered around in easy reach. Its OK though as long as you stick to the runway centre line when on finals. We like to think of our field as challenging rather than difficult. We tell beginners "If you can fly successfully here you can fly anywhere".

Over the last eighteen months we have moved away from only general flying, by introducing a series of low key fun fly events. We also held our inaugural "open" event this year in the form a World War One day.

The WW1 theme was chosen because it tends to be colourful and has above average spectator appeal, also, our shortish strip is better suited to models with lower wing loadings. Some may even argue that our field has a certain authenticity. Trophies are presented for Most Authentic Model (period 1914-1918) and Best Sports Model with a 1914-1918 theme. The judging is exclusively pilots choice. We also run at least one novelty event such as a bomb drop competition.

We advertise this event regionally, however all modellers are welcome.

NSFC club is a growing club and we welcome new members of all flying standards, particularly beginners.
